The history of Blennerhassett Island dates back to 1798 when a wealthy Irishman named Harman Blennerhassett settled on the land and built an exquisite mansion. The Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History offers a detailed look at the area's history and is located directly Parkersburg. From the museum visitors can take a sternwheeler ride to the island where they can enjoy a variety of activities such as horsedrawn carriage rides, picnic areas and shopping in the souvenir shop, as well as touring through the Blennerhassett mansion.
